Mohamed Hasabella (Hurghada - Egypt)

Right next to the “El Mina” lies another wreck, a wooden fishing vessel of approximately 35 meters called “Mohamed Hasabella”.

On our ‘micro BrotherDive’ to Hurghada in 2024 we also dived the wreck together.

The Mohamed Hasabella (Hurghada - Egypt)

Right next to the “El Mina” lies another wreck, a wooden fishing vessel of approximately 35 meters called “Mohamed Hasabella”.
The Mohamed Hasabella, was an Egyptian fishing vessel of the type that is still often used in this area today.

The story & the dive

The fishing vessel “FV Mohamed Hasabella” or “MOHAMMED HISABELLA” had been at anchor for some time before it sank.
The wreck is not very old, and the story behind the ship is probably only known to the local fishing population.
To reach the wreck you have to swim from the back (near the mooring rope) of the El Mina 1 for up to 2 minutes (45 meters) in a southerly direction.
You will then end up on the bow of the ship.
The wreck is still completely intact, standing on the bottom at a depth of about 34 meters.
The minimum depth is about 24 meters (on top of the wheelhouse), and therefore not suitable for open water divers.
There is a lot of equipment on the deck that is interesting to look at.
It is possible to enter the wreck, but just like with the El Mina it is very cramped and not recommended for inexperienced divers.

The dive

Soft coral and other life are already starting to grow on the wreck. There is a lot of pink and purple soft coral to be found around the propeller in particular.
Since the wreck is not yet completely overgrown, this also offers opportunities to take beautiful photos.
There is often a large school of fusiliers hanging above the deck. The wreck is also surrounded by scorpion fish, so be careful when you enter the wreck. The nets are also still spread around the wreck, so some caution is required.
Also keep a close eye on your decompression limits here. Make sure you swim back to the El Mina from this wreck and leave the water from there via the mooring rope.
A free ascent from this wreck is extremely dangerous on this busy route!

Edwin dived this wreck many, many times when he was a guide in Hurghada.
On our ‘micro BrotherDive’ to Hurghada we dived the wreck together.

Conclusion: I must say that I am very impressed with this wreck, and if you have the oppertunity to dive it, you should do so!.

NOTE:

Normally, no more than 1 dive is made on this wreck. A 15 liter tank is not an unnecessary luxury if you to view the wreck of the El Mina in one dive as well.
